Separate general resilience from EMP-specific measures
An EMP scenario attracts dramatic claims, but much of the practical household preparation overlaps with ordinary grid-down resilience: lighting, water, food, communications, medication planning, backup power and a way to function without internet-dependent services. Those investments remain useful across storms, equipment failures and other outages.
EMP-specific protection is a narrower layer. Before buying specialized products, identify which electronics are actually important enough to protect and whether you have a practical way to use them if the surrounding grid or communications infrastructure is unavailable.

Look for a clear explanation of the threat model, what a product or method is intended to protect, what testing supports the claim, and what limitations remain. Treat sweeping promises cautiously. A protection method for a small disconnected electronic device is not automatically evidence that an entire house, vehicle or grid-connected system will remain functional.
